Through Maren’s teaching, she aims to advocate, educate, and inspire her students by creating an open and safe learning environment where they can take risks, be curious, and create their own music. Maren holds a BA in Viola Performance, a Nonprofit Organization minor, and a Professional Writing certificate from Central Washington University (CWU).
Currently, Maren teaches viola, violin, and piano at Music Works NW, Moore Brothers Music, and Seattle JazzED. She also teaches those instruments privately, and has previously taught elementary, middle, and high school students at Yakima Music en Acción, an afterschool nonprofit music program in the Yakima school district. Along with teaching lessons, she is regularly invited to be an orchestra coach for public schools in the Lake Washington school district and for the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Growing up, Maren played viola with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra. She then continued to study viola performance at CWU with Dr. Michelle Rahn. During her time at CWU, she completed two solo recitals on viola and studied piano privately. Now she plays viola for the Saratoga Orchestra and gigs around in the Seattle area. She will continue to pursue her passion and career in sharing music with others by teaching and performing.
